ZimLearn ("we", "our", "the app") is an educational learning application for ZIMSEC Grade 3 to Grade 7 students. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
When you use ZimLearn, we collect the following information that you provide directly:
- Account information: Mobile phone number, name, and password (stored securely as a hash).
- Learning data: Quiz answers, exam submissions, flashcard progress, game quest scores, XP earned, and study notes that you create within the app.
- Device information: A device identifier and device type are stored to manage your active sessions and prevent unauthorised account sharing.
We also collect the following automatically:
- Usage data: Questions answered, accuracy rates, and time spent on exams — used to generate your progress analytics.
We do not collect:
- Location data
- Contacts or call logs
- Photos, camera data, or files from your device
- Advertising IDs or third-party tracking data
2. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the learning service — delivering quizzes, exams, flashcards, and game-based learning.
- To generate progress reports and analytics so students, parents, and teachers can track performance.
- To authenticate your identity when you sign in.
- To manage device sessions and prevent unauthorised access.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. Your learning data belongs to you.
3. Teacher & Student Relationship
If a teacher registers a student account, the teacher can view that student's quiz answers, exam results, accuracy statistics, and learning progress. This is intended to help teachers support their students' education. Teachers cannot view student passwords or personal device information.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Your data is stored on our server in a MySQL database hosted in a secure data centre.
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
- All communication between the app and server uses HTTPS encryption.
- Access to server data is restricted to authorised administrators only.
5. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, you can do so through our account deletion page or by contacting us. Your data will be permanently removed within 7 days of your request.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
7. Children's Privacy
ZimLearn is designed for use by school-age children (typically ages 10-14) under the supervision of their parents or teachers. Student accounts are created either by the student with parental consent or directly by their teacher. We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the educational service. We do not display advertising to children or share their data with third parties.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
